Cecile Jacobs:
set designs and wall hangings
Family Tree "The superb set design from Cecile Jacobs is a wonder..."
(Edmonton Journal)

82” high; 43” wide.

The arms of a tree cradle the multiple vines of the family growing within it. Within the complex vine of Celtic knots and flowers, the centre of each blossom contains a number. Each number represents a specific ancestor whose name is encoded in the accompanying booklet. Almost 740 direct ancestors are represented extending back nearly to the year 1400. The three roots represent the three modern day children, putting down their own roots. Blue flowers represent male ancestors, red female, and mauve where lines cannot be traced further back. The piece was created on a (now-deleted) grid of generation levels going back twenty generations (16 x great grand-parents). Washable by hand.
